The Inquisitor rework in Celestial Destiny is the largest playstyle change in the patch. Not the biggest numbers. The biggest change to how the class is actually played.
That distinction matters, because a class that gets a number buff keeps its rotation and a class that gets a new mechanic does not.
What changed
| Change | What it means at the keyboard |
|---|---|
| Updated combat mechanic | The class now has a second layer to its rotation instead of skills fired on cooldown |
| Additional strikes | Single presses produce more hits, which changes how damage lines up with buff windows |
| Lightning Strike | The new ability the class is built around after the rework |
If you played Inquisitor before July 2026, your old muscle memory is the problem, not your gear. That is the honest summary.
Why a mechanic change is harder than a buff
With a buff, you keep playing and the numbers go up. With a mechanic, the old opener may now be wrong, and the old skill priority may actively lose damage.
Most players adapt in the wrong order. They change gear first, then skills, then rotation. Reverse it. Rotation is free. Gear is expensive.
What to test, in order
- Single-target dummy. Run the old rotation for two minutes, then run a rotation built around the extra strikes and Lightning Strike. Compare total damage, not burst at three seconds.
- Pack farming. Inquisitor changes usually shift the balance between single-target and area damage. Test a dense camp, not a boss.
- PvP exchange. One duel tells you more about the new mechanic than an hour of farming. You are looking for whether the extra strikes land before the opponent's escape, not for a damage number.
- Auto-hunt. If you rely on auto-hunt, watch one full loop. New mechanics sometimes need a skill the automation does not prioritise, and the result is a rotation that looks fine on paper and falls apart at night.
Build implications
The rework rewards players who can keep a longer rotation running. That usually shifts value toward cooldown reduction, mana sustain and anything that lets you press the new strike more often. It also raises the cost of dying mid-fight, since a longer setup is harder to restart.
Numbers here are not worth quoting from a third-party summary. Read your skill tooltips in the client and compare them to the values in the class tier list, which is dated and says so.
Is Inquisitor worth picking up now
If you already play it, yes, learn it again. The class got attention from the developers, and attention is the only reliable signal that a class will stay strong through the next tuning pass.
If you are choosing a main from scratch, the honest answer is different. A reworked class is the most expensive kind to learn, because every guide written before July 2026 is now wrong. The class change list shows which classes moved and which did not.
FAQ
Is Lightning Strike a new skill or a replacement?
It arrived with the rework as the ability the new mechanic is built around. Whether it replaces a skill slot or adds one depends on your current build, so check the skill window before you reorganise your bars.
Do old Inquisitor guides still work?
For gear basics, sometimes. For rotation, no. Anything written before July 2026 describes a class that no longer exists.
Did the rework make Inquisitor stronger in PvP or PvE?
Both, in different ways. The extra strikes matter in sustained PvE, and the new mechanic gives PvP a burst window the old version lacked. Your mileage depends on whether you can execute the longer rotation under pressure.
