Tier lists are the most read and least useful Lineage 2 Essence content on the internet. Not because the rankings are wrong. Because they answer a question almost nobody actually has.
What the tiers mean
| Tier | Meaning in practice |
|---|---|
| S | Strongest at the top end when fully geared. Irrelevant if you are not fully geared. |
| A | Carries most content comfortably. Where most players should look. |
| B | Fully playable, needs more investment for the same result. |
| C | Niche or currently out-tuned. Still fine if you enjoy it. |
Why tier lists mislead
- They measure the top end. A class ranked S on the strength of endgame gear you do not have tells you nothing about your next three months.
- They measure one activity. Farming, dungeons and mass PvP reward different things. A farming S-tier can be a PvE-competition afterthought.
- They expire. Rose Vain moved the roster, then Celestial Destiny moved it again in July 2026. Any tier list older than the last major update is a historical document.
- They ignore playstyle. A class you do not enjoy is a class you abandon. That is a worse outcome than playing a B-tier class for a year.
What to do instead
- Decide your primary content. Farming, group PvE, or PvP.
- Shortlist two or three classes that fit that content in the current patch.
- Check which of them were reworked recently. Recently tuned classes are usually stable.
- Pick the one whose playstyle you can tolerate for hundreds of auto-hunt hours.
- Commit. One geared character beats three half-geared ones every time.
What the newest classes tell you
Samurai arrived in November 2025, Blood Rose in September 2025. Both are recent enough that their tuning is still moving. New classes get adjusted gently in their first months, which makes them low-risk picks if you were going to reroll anyway, and poor picks if you expect them to stay at the top.
Neither is automatically the strongest class. They are simply the two with the least accumulated history, and that cuts both ways. Current changes live in the Celestial Destiny notes, not in a tier list.
For one class written up in full rather than ranked, see the Samurai guide or the Blood Rose guide.
Use tier lists as a filter, not a decision. Your gear, your timezone and your patience decide the game far more than the tier letter does.
