Samurai is the newest class in Lineage 2 Essence and the one people ask about most. It arrived with the November 2025 update and it is not a small addition: a Kamael-only male warrior with a katana, no wings, and no shield.

Here is what the class actually is, without the trailer language.

The basics

RaceGenderRoleWeapon
KamaelMale onlyMelee physical damageKatana, one-handed sword

No wings, unlike other Kamaels. No shield, ever. Armour appearance changes with the grade of your top piece, which is a cosmetic detail until you realise it is also how you read an opponent's gear at a glance.

Passives do most of the work

Two passives define the class before you press a single skill.

  • Katana Master. With a one-handed sword: damage up and a large flat physical attack bonus.
  • Samurai Armor Master. In heavy armour: more max HP, more physical defence, and cheaper physical skill MP costs.

Translation: the class wants a katana and heavy armour, and it gets paid for both. Wear light armour and you lose a chunk of the kit. This is not a class where you improvise the gear slot.

Samurai also does not get the Blessed by Sayha passive that other classes build around. If you are copying a build guide written for a different class, that missing piece is why your numbers look wrong.

The skill kit in plain language

  • Perception: Battojutsu. The draw-stance skill that unlocks the rest of the rotation.
  • Embodiment. A short proc buff, roughly four seconds, with a low trigger rate and a long internal cooldown. You do not control it. You notice it.
  • Disastrous Shriek. Area damage plus a knockdown, ignores shield defence and a slice of physical defence. This is the skill that makes the class feel good in a crowd.
  • Gap closers. The class gets a different movement tool depending on the target: a rush against monsters, a close-quarters buff against melee, a chase buff against ranged.
  • Defensive buffs. Debuff resistance, reduced incoming skill critical rate and reduced incoming critical damage. That combination is why Samurai survives the first exchange in PvP better than its armour suggests.

How it plays

PvE: straightforward. Close the gap, drop the knockdown, let the passive damage do the work. The class farms well because it does not need a party to function, which is the same reason most Essence players pick anything.

PvP: it wants to be the second person to arrive. Not the initiator. The defensive buffs reward trading hits, and the knockdown creates the window for your group. Play it like a bruiser, not an assassin, and it stops feeling fragile.

Is it worth rerolling?

Three questions, in order.

  1. Do you already have a geared character? Then no. A new class costs you months and the tuning pass is not finished.
  2. Are you starting fresh anyway? Then it is a reasonable pick, with one warning: everyone else had the same idea, so the market for katana gear is crowded.
  3. Do you play with a fixed group? Then check whether they need damage or a body that survives. Samurai is the second one wearing a damage class costume.

Numbers here come from the class as it shipped and may have been tuned since. Verify the current values in the client before you buy a single enchant stone. That advice applies to every class guide on the internet, including this one.
